RAGBRAI® Community Party - May 21st May 15, 2009
The Ottumwa RAGBRAI® committee will host their second community party
on Thursday, May 21 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Bridge View Center. The event
will continue to promote the upcoming overnight visit of The Register's
Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa™ on Thursday, July 23 in Ottumwa.
"The party will continue to promote the upcoming visit and encourage
all local residents to get involved," said committee co-chair Pam
Kaupins.
T-shirt Thursdays The
event will kick off RAGBRAI® T-shirt Thursdays. From May 21 through
July 23, residents will be encouraged to wear their RAGBRAI® t-shirts
every Thursday. Employers are encouraged to allow their staff to wear
their shirts as well. People and businesses caught wearing their
t-shirts may be featured in newspaper or website promotions.
Be a Host Family A
drawing will be held for residents who have signed up early to become a
host family. There is still time to sign up. Residents who sign up by
May 19 will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gas card from Elliott
Oil, a $50 gift card from Hy-Vee, or one of two certificates for a free
medium 1-topping pizza donated by Pizza Hut. For additional

Recycling Box Winner The
winning classrooms who decorated recycling containers will be
announced. Students decorated over 40 large cardboard boxes that will
be used the day of the event as collection points for plastic bottles.
Classroom containers will encourage visitors to help keep Ottumwa clean
by using the containers.
Support RAGBRAI® RAGBRAI®
t-shirts and flowers will also be for sale. The Hospitality Committee
is encouraging residents to plant petunias as part of the effort. With
over 20,000 guests coming to town on July 23, the committee hopes all
residents will do their part to promote Ottumwa as a great place to
live and work. The party will also feature entertainment and promote
fun community sponsorship opportunities.
"We want the entire community to come out and get involved in RAGBRAI®," said Kaupins.
