RAGBRAI® Community Party - May 21st
May 15, 2009

The Ottumwa RAGBRAI® committee will host their second community party on Thursday, May 21 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Bridge View Center. The event will continue to promote the upcoming overnight visit of The Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa™ on Thursday, July 23 in Ottumwa. "The party will continue to promote the upcoming visit and encourage all local residents to get involved," said committee co-chair Pam Kaupins.

T-shirt Thursdays
The event will kick off RAGBRAI® T-shirt Thursdays. From May 21 through July 23, residents will be encouraged to wear their RAGBRAI® t-shirts every Thursday. Employers are encouraged to allow their staff to wear their shirts as well. People and businesses caught wearing their t-shirts may be featured in newspaper or website promotions.

Be a Host Family
A drawing will be held for residents who have signed up early to become a host family. There is still time to sign up. Residents who sign up by May 19  will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gas card from Elliott Oil, a $50 gift card from Hy-Vee, or one of two certificates for a free medium 1-topping pizza donated by Pizza Hut. For additional information, contact Sherry at 641-682-8987 or Joan at 641-682-5485.  Residents can register at www.ottumwaragbrai.com or email questions to housing@ottumwaragbrai.com .

Recycling Box Winner
The winning classrooms who decorated recycling containers will be announced. Students decorated over 40 large cardboard boxes that will be used the day of the event as collection points for plastic bottles. Classroom containers will encourage visitors to help keep Ottumwa clean by using the containers.

Support RAGBRAI®
RAGBRAI® t-shirts and flowers will also be for sale. The Hospitality Committee is encouraging residents to plant petunias as part of the effort. With over 20,000 guests coming to town on July 23, the committee hopes all residents will do their part to promote Ottumwa as a great place to live and work. The party will also feature entertainment and promote fun community sponsorship opportunities.

"We want the entire community to come out and get involved in RAGBRAI®," said Kaupins.
